A self-portrait

I was asked to create an image of myself, a self-portrait without a human face, no direct figure or animal representation. A feeling, a moment, or an image. This is what I saw.

I started working on shapes that reminded me of key memories of myself. I used to love wearing those rainbow rubber-spiked earrings from Claire’s. I felt it defined me at that age.

I love texture, seeing and feeling the detail in other senses. I used that to articulate how floating in your own mind feels. As a kid, I felt I often got lost in my own thoughts, my own anxieties, and comforts.

Lastly, add the charcoal in the middle to be the exact center. That specific consciousness I know is there, always observing from my eyes.
