Little Maria

This collection was inspired by the combination of ladybugs’ anatomy and the female body. Taking note of Mod 60's fashion, many of the Sihlohettes resemble that style. The customer in mind while creating these garments is a lively 20-30-year-old who wants high-quality everyday wear, which also expresses her bold personality. Many of the fabrics chosen from Cottonworks, as well as Clo3d, aim to resemble the insect's design through their patterns and textures. The main inspiration being a ladybug’s hard shell and wings underneath.

First Look, winged dress

This first look was designed with the ladybug’s exterior shell in mind, which protects its delicate wings. The skirts’ peek-a-boo openings show the underlayer silk and transparent black material to simulate this. Princess paneling and style lines are used to exaggerate the curves and natural round features of the insect.

Second Look, spotted cutouts

This garment utilizes the cutouts to replicate the pattern and symmetry that the ladybugs create on their shells. Instead of a polkadot pattern, I wanted to use the positions of the female body and our own skin to show this type of design. In addition, the pleats mimic the underside of the insect and its ridges.

Third Look, petal Dress

This last look, I wanted to capture a more free-flowing silhouette, bringing back those curves and a round figure. In this case, it also resembles petals connecting the environment of the ladybugs.
